The Paraná Design Center will coordinate together with the Industry Federation of the State of Paraná (FIEP) the 2010 Brazilian Design Exhibit – Curitiba. The event will take place from September 14th to October 21st 2010 and in these days design and innovation will be the very air you breath in the city of Curitiba.
This year’s Biennial Exhibit is dedicated to the topic “Design, Innovation and Sustainability” and has Adélia Borges as the general curator. This initiative echoes internationally and intends to create a space for reflecting on how to project, manufacture and consume goods via exhibits, discussion forums, seminars, workshops, educational, interactive and cultural action, thus fulfilling present day needs and demands without compromising the planet’s future. This topic has since the 80’s become a goal in the World Commission on Environment and Development’s agenda of the United Nations Organization.
The Biennial Exhibit’s organization expects 250 thousand visitors to both traditional and unusual exhibition spaces – the plan includes from the Oscar Niemayer Museum, which was designed by the architect himself, to the XV de Novembro Street, the first pedestrian-only street in the country, where a high number of pedestrians meet and walk everyday. The idea isn’t just to reach designers and professionals of related areas, but also to include the community in general: children, senior citizens and people with special needs will also find the necessary infra-structure to safely and autonomously enjoy the whole program. Besides, 500 thousand web users are expected to visit the virtual exhibits.
The 2010 Biennial Exhibit is an initiative of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) and the Brazilian Competitive Movement (MBC). Sponsors confirmed so far are Fiat Automotive and the Santander Bank which, along with others, will be able to deduce the investment they make from their income tax, as approved the Ministry of Culture (MINC) via the Rouanet Law (nº 8.313, de 1991).
