2008 BIENNIAL EXHIBIT MENTION-OF-HONOR PRODUCTS VOTE

Under contract with the Competitive Brazil Movement (MBC), the Design Center Paraná developed a tool for the open election of the mention-of-honor products of the 2nd Brazilian Design Biennial Exhibit. The purpose of this action was to create an opportunity for the general public to get in touch with national design.

The Biennial Exhibit took place from Oct 8th to Nov 5th 2008 at the National Museum of the Republic in the city of Brasília (DF). In this time, the DesignBrasil Network hosted a hotsite in which visitors could choose their favorites from 200 items selected by the curators of the exhibit, which was signed by Fábio Magalhães and Auresnede Pires Stephan. .

After a quick and free-of-charge registration in the DesignBrasil community, the public voted for up to three products distributed in the areas of furniture and home utensils, eco-design, lighting, jewels, machinery and equipment, hospital appliances and home appliances. 3097 votes were received from more than 175 Brazilian cities and also from countries such as Paraguay, USA and France.

Even though the vote indicated a significant dispersion between categories, the winning items came from the area of furniture and home utensils. The first place was the Sphere ventilator, by designers Gustavo Granato, Marco Antônio Coelho Ribeiro and Rafael Queiroz Martyres. Renata Moura got the second place with the Uooou hassock. The Pente dish rack by Eduardo Borém took the third place.

Besides the MBC, the 2nd Brazilian Design Biennial Exhibit was also promoted by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) under the Brazilian Design Program (PBD).
