  MONTANA INDÚSTRIA DE MÁQUINAS

Montana Indústria de Máquinas, in the city of São José dos Pinhais (PR), contacted the Design Center Paraná in 1999 to find support in developing a self-propelled crop sprayer. The demand came from a need identified by the company: there was no similar product manufactured in Brazil.

In this context, the self-propelled crop sprayer Parruda was created, and the project management for the development was taken on by the Design Center Paraná. The name Parruda was chosen to stress the product's essential features: ruggedness and performance.

The first step in the job execution was to elaborate a preliminary briefing based on data collected by the company and on information obtained with the new machine's target consumers. The briefing indicated the concepts that should be focused on by the product, among which design as indicated as value-adding factor; stress on ruggedness, efficiency and comfort; easy operation and high technical quality.

The design office MFC was hired to execute the design project and continued with the concept development, scale model and product prototype. The end result was a highly efficient product combining technology, style and comfort. The cabin, for instance, was encapsulated and equipped with air conditioning, ensuring safety against contamination.

The Parruda was launched in 2000 at the Agrishow, a traditional agricultural fair in Ribeirão Preto (SP). At the event alone six units were sold, which represented the company's production capacity for the following seven months.

In 2005, Montana participated on the program Paraná Creation (Criação Paraná), coordinated by the Design Center, during which a new generation of the Parruda was developed. Based on the  previous experience, the self-propelling crop sprayer incorporated a series of new features, such as an ergonomically improved door opening, improvement of space perception in the cockpit, creation of areas for tools, cd player, thermos and other items. This time, the project was developed by the design office Design Inverso.

The second version of the product was awarded in 2008 the IDEA/Brasil Gold prize and also Bronze in the international version of this award.
